Lesson Four - Daily Bible Study

TEXT: 2 Tim. 2:15

INTRODUCTION:

A. GOD SPEAKS THROUGH THE BIBLE.

1. Jesus is God's revelation of himself( Heb.1:1-2 ).

2. Jesus is revealed in the Bible( 1 Cor. 2:16 ).

B. WE ARE TOLD TO "DRAW NIGH" UNTO GOD( James 4:8 ).

1. Can we do this without Bible study?

2. Do we have the right attitude toward study?

3. Do we have a knowledge of the most profitable methods?

C. LONG TERM GOAL - BECOME BETTER STUDENTS SO WE MIGHT INDEPENDENTLY LEARN WHAT IS VITAL AND IMPORTANT.

D. SHORT TERM GOALS:

1. Develop in our lives a hungering for the word.

2. Learn better methods of Bible study.

3. Learn to rely on the scriptures for the answer to problems.

I. REASONS FOR DAILY BIBLE STUDY.

A. WE "WALK BY FAITH"( 2 Cor. 5:7; Rom. 10:17 ).

B. TEMPTATION( Mat. 4:1-10 ).

C. DEFENSE( 1 Pet. 3:15; Jude 3 ).

D. TEACHING( Heb. 5:12; 2 Tim. 2:2 ).

E. MATURITY( 2 Tim. 3:16-17 ).

F. 2 Tim. 2:15.

G. Deut. 6:1-2, 4-9; Psa. 19:7-11.

H. John 8:31-32; 1 Pet. 2:1-2.

II. THE IMPORTANCE & USEFULNESS OF MEMORIZATION & MEDITATION.

A. MEMORIZATION:

1. Makes more careful of the detail & precision of each verse.

2. The passage stays with us longer & is useful to us later.

3. Col. 3:16; Psa. 119:11.

B. MEDITATION:

1. "Give thought to, think on, speak to one's self." Ruminate.

2. Psa. 1; Phil. 4:8.

C. MEMORIZE & MEDITATE. FIND A KEY VERSE EACH DAY.

CONCLUSION:

A. DO WE STUDY AS WE SHOULD?

B. DO WE UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF IT?( John 6:68 ).
