Believers Who Are Not Added To The Lord

TEXTActs 5:14

INTRODUCTION:

A.      "BELIEVERS" A TERM USED TO DESCRIBE CHRISTIANS

          1.       In these passages( 1 Tim 4:12;  1 Thes 1:7;  1 Cor 9:5;  2 Cor 6:15 ).

          2.       Believers are "added to the Lord."

B.      NOT ALL BELIEVERS ARE ADDED.

          1.       Some argue "faith only."  All you must do is believe.

          2.       Some believed, but were not saved.

          3.       It is true that roses are red. It is untrue that all roses are red.

I.      Some believers are not added to the Lord.

A.      Those who do not believe the word of Jesus.

          1.       John 8:30-32.  How are these Jews described.

          2.       John 8:33-47.  Their faith conditional.  Does he say what we want to hear?

          3.       True of others( John 5:39-47;  6:35, 40, 48-51, 58-66 )

          4.       John 12:48-50.

          5.       Many who believe in Jesus today don't accept what he says.

B.      Those who will not confess him( John 12:42-43; Matt. 10:32-33 ).

C.      Those who will not obey him( Acts 26:24-29 ).

          1.       It is "Trust and Obey"( James 2:24 ).

          2.       "Doing" his will a part of the plan( James 1:22;  Matt. 7:21 ).

D.      2 Thess. 1:7-9.

II.     SOME BELIEVE AND DO, BUT ARE NOT SAVED.

A.      MORE THAN DOING INVOLVED.

          1.       What we do is important( Matt. 7:21 ).

                   a.       Obedience implies specific action.

                   b.       The specifics of God's will in the teachings of Jesus( Matt. 7:24-27 ).

B.      WE ARE GIVEN A BLUEPRINT, A PATTERN.

          1.       1 Cor. 3:10;  Heb. 8:5.

          2.       House blueprints and contracts that are broken.

          3.       The sin of presumption( Psa. 19:13;  2 John 9 ).

III.    BELIEVERS WHO ARE ADDED TO THE LORD.

A.      WHAT WAS THE COMMAND OF THE LORD?( Acts 2:36-38 ).

B.      WHAT WAS THE RESPONSE OF THOSE WHO BELIEVED(Acts 2:41 ).

C.      THOSE WHO BELIEVE AND DO ARE ADDED TO THE LORD

          ( Acts 2:47; 5:14 ).

Conclusion:  HAVE YOU BEEN ADDED TO THE LORD?
