Evangelism and the Church

A.      THE PRIMARY FUNCTION OF THE CHURCH?  EVANGELISM!

B.      GOD'S PLAN FROM THE BEGINNING( Eph. 3:10-11 ).

C.      OUR REASON FOR EXISTING IS TO SPREAD THE BORDERS.  HOW?

I.      WHY IS THIS WORK IMPORTANT?

A.      THE UNIVERSAL NEED OF SALVATION.

          1.       All are under sin( Rom. 3:9-10, 23 ).

          2.       Death is the result of sin( Eph. 2:1, 12 ).

B.      THE GOSPEL IS GOD'S POWER TO SAVE( Rom. 1:16-17 ).

          1.       The Corinthians saved by the gospel( 1 Cor. 1-4 ).

          2.       Words were used to save Cornelius( Acts 11:14 ).

          3.       We are begotten by the gospel( 1 Cor. 4:15;  1 Pet. 1:23 ).

          4.       Cleansed by the words of Jesus( John 15:3 ).

          5.       Word of God is the Seed of the Kingdom( Luke 8:11 ).

          6.       Those to whom the gospel is veiled perish( 2 Cor. 4:3-4 ).

          7.       Fellow-heirs with Christ through the gospel( Eph. 3:6 ).

          8.       Able to give inheritance among the sanctified( Acts 20:32 ).

          9.       Brings to light Life and Immortality( 2 Tim. 1:10 ).

C.      WHAT IS THE POWER IN THE GOSPEL( Rom. 1:17 ).  INFORMATION.

II.     THE CHURCH IS GOD'S AGENCY IN THIS WORK.

A.      GOD IS THE BE GLORIFIED IN THE CHURCH( Eph. 3:21 ).

B.      THE CHURCH IS PILLAR AND GROUND OF THE TRUTH( 2 Tim. 3:14-15 ).

C.      Phil. 2:14-16.

D.      AS PAUL DID HIS WORK, GOD WAS GLORIFIED IN THE CHURCH

          ( Eph. 3:8-11 ) PAUL WAS A MEMBER OF THE CHURCH!

III.    EXAMPLES IN THE NT PROVE THE POINT & SHOW HOW.

A.      IN ACTS:

          1.       5:42.  Members were active.

          2.       11:26.  Worked as a group.

          3.       13:1-3;  14:27-28.  Sent out preachers.

B.      THESSALONICA( 1 Thess. 1:2-8 ).

C.      MACEDONIA( 2 Cor. 11:8-9 ).

D.      PHILIPPI( Phil. 1:3-6;  4:14-20 ).

CONCLUSION:

A.      THE CHURCH NEEDS TO SEE ITS RESPONSIBILITY.

B.      OUR CONGREGATION CANNOT BE SATISFIED TO HORDE.

C.      WE MUST WORK TOGETHER.
