Gird, Arise, Speak

INTRODUCTION:

A.      THE WEEPING PROPHET – THE TOUGHEST OF TIMES FOR ISRAEL.

B.      CALLED WHEN VERY YOUNG, PERHAPS A TEENAGER.

C.      TUMULTOUS TIME CALLED FOR PREPARATION AND RESOLVE (vs. 17).

D.      WHAT CAN WE LEARN?

I.      GIRD UP THY LOINS!

A.      1 Pet. 1:13anazonnumi, “The figure is taken from the circumstances of the Israelites

          as they ate the Passover in readiness for their journey, Ex 12:11; the Christian is to have

          his mental powers alert ...” (Vine)

B.      HOW DO WE PREPARE FOR SUCH A WORK?

          1.       1 Pet. 1:13.  Preparing the mind – Commitment (2:21-23; 3:15; 4:19). RESOLVE!

          2.       Eph. 6:14.  Wrap yourself in the Truth.

                   a.  Makes you free (John 8:32).

                   b.  Learn it! (2 Tim. 2:151 Tim. 4:13-16).

          3.       1 Pet. 5:5.  Humility.

                   a.       vs. 5-7.  Reliance (Psa. 55:2227:1, 13-14).

                   b.       James 4:8-10.  Self-Realization (Psa. 8:3-4Rom. 12:3).

                   c.       Phil. 2:5-8.  Obedience in all things. (Heb. 5:8-9).

          4.       Luke 12:35-40.  Anticipation.  (2 Pet. 3:10-13Rev. 22:20).

II.     ARISE!

A.      FAITH IS ESSENTIAL (Heb. 11:6).

B.      FAITH WITHOUT WORKS.

          1.       Self delusion of knowing the truth and doing nothing (James 1:22)

          2.       Faith only (James 2:14-17).

C.      FAITH IS THE POWER OF OUR VICTORY (1 John 5:4Phil. 4:13).

D.      THE CALL TO BATTLE (Eph. 6:10-13).

III.    SPEAK!

A.      SPEAK UNTO THEM ALL THAT I COMMAND THEE.

          1.       What has God provided? (Titus 2:11-122 Tim. 3:16-171 Pet. 1:3).

          2.       What must the shepherds feed (Acts 20:26-27).

          3.       Isa. 30:9-11No vegetablesdessert only!

B.      SPEAK UNTO THEM ALL THAT I COMMAND THEE.

          1.       1 Pet. 4:8.  Limited to what comes from God.

          2.       God has given a pattern (2 Tim. 1:13).  We must stick to it.

          3.       The pattern only (Col. 2:82 John 9).

C.      SPEAK UNTO THEM ALL THAT I COMMAND THEE.

          1.       Timothy was to command and teach (1 Tim. 4:11).

          2.       Titus, with all authority (Titus 2:15).

          3.       The authority is because it is God’s word (Luke 10:161 Thess. 2:13).

IV.   BE NOT DISMAYED!

A.      THE IMPORTANCE OF THE WORK (Rom. 1:16).

B.      COMMITMENT TO THE WORK (2 Tim. 1:12).

                                                     NO REGRETS!

          1.       The reassurance of Jesus (Matt. 10:28).

          2.       The confidence of Paul (2 Tim. 4:18).

          3.       The promise of God (2 Tim. 4:6-8).

C.      LOYALTY TO JESUS (Mark 8:38).

                                              Will Jesus Be Ashamed of Me?

CONCLUSION:

A.      JEREMIAH HAD A MUCH ROUGHER TIME AHEAD OF HIM.

B.      HE NEEDED TO BE AWARE OF WHAT WAS EXPECTED OF HIM.

C.      IS ANY LESS EXPECTED OF US?
