The Holy Spirit in Conversion

INTRODUCTION:

A.      THE HOLY SPIRIT A PERSON OF THE GODHEAD( Col. 2:9 ).

B.      POSSESSES MARKS OF PERSONALITY.

C.      NO ONE EVER CONVERTED WITHOUT HIM – WHAT IS HIS PART?

I.      HIS WORKTO CONVICT THE WORLD( John 16:8 ).

A.      CONVICT( reprove KJV ).  Elegcho, “convict or convince someone of something,

          point something out to someone, bring to light, expose, set forth.” ( A&G ).

          “Make the facts known and convince the world” – Connie Adams.

B.      OF SIN( Acts 2:36;  Rom. 3:23 ).

C.      OF RIGHTEOUSNESS( Rom. 16-17;  3:21-22 ).

D.      OF JUDGMENT( Acts 17:30-31 ).

II.     HOW DOES THE HOLY SPIRIT CONVICT?

A.      EITHER DIRECTLY OR THROUGH AGENCY.

B.      LOOK AT WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS:

          1.       Eph. 6:17.  The “sword of the Spirit” – the Word.

          2.       1 Cor. 4:15.  How are we begotten?  The Gospel.

          3.       2 Thess. 2:13-14.  How are we called?  The Gospel.

          4.       Titus 2:11-12.  In what form does grace appear – Instructs( 2 Tim. 3:16-17 ).

          5.       James 1:21.  What saves our souls?  The implanted Word.

          6.       Rom. 1:16-17.

III.    FOUR EXAMPLES THAT SHOW HOW THE HOLY SPIRIT

        WORKS IN CONVERSION.

A.      PENTECOST.

          1.       The Jews confusion over miracles( Acts 2:11-13vs. 15-16 ).

          2.       Their dependency on Peter to interpret and inform is seen here.

                   a.       vs. 22.  “Ye men of Israel, hear these words” ( vs. 32-33 ).

                   b.       vs. 37.  “Now when they heard this…” ( vs. 40 ).

B.      ETHIOPIAN( Acts 8:26-40 ).

          1.       Who did the Spirit speak to?  Philip, not the Eunuch( vs. 26-29 ).

          2.       Philip preached unto him Jesus( vs. 35 ).

C.      SAUL OF TARSUS( Acts 9 & 22 ).

          1.       “it shall be told thee”  ( 9:26 ).

          2.       “it shall be told thee”  ( 22:10 ).

D.      CORNELIUS( Acts 10 & 11 ).

          1.       10:44-48.

          2.       11:13-18.

IV.   HOW DO WE KNOW WE ARE SAVED?

A.      THE TRUE CHILD DOESN’T HAVE TO RELY ON EMOTION, INTUITION, OR MIRACLES.

           YOU DON’T GO IN THE CLOSET AND PRAY.

B.      Rom. 8:16WHERE?( 1 Cor. 2:10-13;  Eph. 3:3-5 ).

          1.       John 8:24.  We must have faith.

          2.       Acts 17:30.  We must repent.

          3.       Rom. 10:10.  We must confess his name.

          4.       Acts 2:38.  We must be baptized.

CONCLUSION:

A.      THE SPIRIT HAS DONE HIS WORK.

B.      HAVE YOU DONE YOURS?
