What Kind of Preaching?

INTRODUCTION:

A.      ALWAYS GETTING ADVICE ON HOW TO PREACH.

B.      THE BEST PLACE TO LEARN WHAT KIND OF PREACHING IS NEEDED

          IS THE NEW TESTAMENT.

NT TEACHING WAS:

I.      CLEAR, SOUND AND INTELLIGIBLE.

A.      PAUL REASONED FROM THE SCRIPTURES( Acts 17:2;  18:4;  19:9 ).

B.      NOT MERELY EMOTIONAL TIRADES OR PEP RALLIES.

C.      REASONED ON THEIR LEVEL - FROM THE SCRIPTURES( 17:2 ).

II.     BOLD AND AGGRESSIVE.

A.      THE EARLY CHURCH PRAYED FOR COURAGE TO PREACH( Acts 4:29 ).

B.      AND THEY DID( 1 Thes. 2:2;  Acts 13:45-46 ).

C.      JESUS WARNED THE APOSTLES( John 15:20 ).

D.      PETER'S COURAGE COST HIM( Acts 5:27-32 ).

E.      PAUL'S COURAGE WAS OF THE SAME FIBER( Acts 24:24-25; 26:24-29 ).

F.      PAUL SUFFERED UNEXPECTED LOSS( 2 Cor. 11:26;  Gal. 4:16 ).

III.    CONTROVERSIAL.

A.      IN ORDER TO TEACH SOMEONE SOMETHING HE DOESN"T BELIEVE,

          YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO DISPUTE( Acts 6:9;  9:29 ).

B.      APOLLOS, AFTER HIS CONVERSION( Acts 18:27-28 ).

C.      THE "GENTILE QUESTION"( 15:1-2 ).

D.      WE MUST DEFEND THE TRUTH( Jude 3;  1 Pet.3:15;  Phil. 1:16 ).

E.      FROM AN OFFENSIVE POSITION( Phil. 1:27;  2 Tim. 4:2-4 ).

IV.   NOT COUCHED IN HUMAN WISDOM.

A.      THE GOSPEL WAS THE FOCAL POINT( Acts 8:35; 17:2 ).

B.      MAN CAN ONLY BE DISTRACTED BY HUMAN WISDOM( Col. 2:8 ).

V.    RESPONSIBLE.

A.      THE SCRIPTURES AGAIN THE BASIS( Acts 17:2-3 ).

B.      WARNING( Gal. 1:6-9;  2 John 9 ).

C.      PAUL'S EXAMPLE( Acts 20:20, 26-27 ).

D.      FOR ALL TEACHERS( James 3:1;  4:11 ).

E.      LISTENERS HAVE A PART TO PLAY( Acts 17:11 ).

VI.   MOTIVATED BY LOVE.

A.      Eph. 4:15.  SPEAK THE TRUTH IN LOVE.

B.      John 14:15.  WE ARE TO LOVE OUR LORD( 2 Cor. 5:14 ).

C.      Prov. 23:23.  WE MUST LOVE THE TRUTH.

D.      WILL WE LOVE OUR NEIGHBOR?( Rom. 10:1, 13-15 ).

E.      LOVE WILL BE EVIDENT( 2 Tim. 2:24-26 ).

CONCLUSION:

A.      BIBLE INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREACHERS!

B.      LESSONS FOR LISTENERS.

          1.       Care would not be necessary if the message was not vital.
