Who Was Jesus? - ii

TEXT:  Acts 9:5

INTRODUCTION:

A.      JESUS IS GOD( John 1:1 ).

          1.       Unexpected controversy.

          2.       Possesses divine attributed fully( Col. 2:9 ).

B.      OBJECTIONS OF COURSE RAISED & QUESTIONS ASKED.

I.      OBJECTIONS TO John 1:1.

A.      FIRST TACTIC - ATTACK A STRAW MAN.

          1.       No one claims Jesus and Jehovah the same person here.

          2.       Same in essence or substance.

B.      SECOND - SPURIOUS ATTACK ON THE GRAMMAR.

          1.       Absence of the definite article..."a god."

                   a.       "Godlike, divine, a god, but not Almighty God."

                   b.       2 Cor. 4:4.  "a reference to Satan or human perceptions perverted?"

                   c.       They quote Thayer.  "The logos was divine, not the Divine Being

himself."  No citation.  But note Thayer on theotes, pg. 288.  "Deity,

the state of being God, Godhead;  Col. 2:9."

          2.       The significance of the Greek article?

                   a.       We dare not allow them to arbitrarily determine this.

                   b.       Other verses: John 1:6, 12, 13, 18.  Note the dishonest translation.  No

                             article at all.  Why?( Mat. 5:9;  Luke 1:35, 78;  2:40 ).

II.     ISN'T GOD SUPERIOR TO JESUSYES!

A.      WHAT DID JESUS SAY?( John 6:38; 17:4;  14:28 ).

B.      WHAT DID THE APOSTLES SAY?( 1 Cor. 11:3;  Acts 2:22 ).

C.      BUT JESUS WAS NOT ALWAYS SO!

          1.       He gave up much( Phil. 2:5-8;  John 17:5 ).

          2.       Jesus had to learn obedience( Heb. 5:8-9 ).

III.    JESUS IS THE SON OF GOD!

A.  HIS "ONLY BEGOTTEN SON"( John 3:16 ).  What does this mean?

          1.       Does not always refer to origin - Abraham

                   ( Heb. 11:17;  Gal. 4:22;  Gen. 21:10-12 ).

          2.       Psa. 2:7 fulfilled in Acts 13:32-33.

          3.       What happened when Jesus was raised?( Eph. 1:20-23;  Heb. 1:3-5;  5:5-6 ).

B.      THEN JESUS, AS THE "ONLY BEGOTTEN" IS OUR PRIEST AND KING.

          1.       As our priest - perfect sacrifice( 1 Pet. 1:18-19 ).

          2.       As our king - all authority( Col. 3:17 ).

CONCLUSIONWILL YOU SUBMIT TO THE AUTHORITY OF GOD'S SON?
