Why Is Jesus Coming?

TEXT: Heb. 9:27-28

INTRODUCTION:

A. THE COMING OF THE LORD HAS CHALLENGED OUR THINKING FOR YEARS.

B. MANY QUESTIONS AS TO WHAT HAPPENS AND WHEN (Matt. 24:35-39, 44).

C. IT IS OBVIOUS NOBODY KNOWS WHEN.

D. AND IMPORTANT QUESTION WHY IS HE COMING?

I. WHY DID HE COME THE FIRST TIME?

A. GOD SENT HIM (John 4:34; 8:42).

1. To seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10; 1 Tim. 1:15).

2. To serve (Phil. 2:5-8; Matt. 20:26-28).

3. To ransom (Matt. 20:28).

B. HE SHINED LIGHT ON THE TRUTH (John 1:4-9).

1. The darkness apprehended it not (John 3:19-21).

2. Jesus has the flashlight (John 8:12).

3. We reflect his light (Matt. 5:14-16; Phil. 2:12-16).

C. TO BUILD HIS KINGDOM, THE CHURCH (Matt. 16:18-19).

II. NOT TO BUILD AN EARTHLY KINGDOM.

A. MEET HIM IN THE AIR (1 Thess. 4:16-18).

B. WE SHALL NO HIM NO MORE AFTER THE FLESH (2 Cor. 5:16).

C. CANNOT BE OUR PRIEST ON EARTH.

1. We need his priesthood (Heb. 2:17; 4:14-15; 9:11-12; 10:11-14, 19-21).

2. Cannot be a priest on the earth (Heb. 8:4).

D. CANNOT BE KING IN JERUSALEM (Jer. 22:28-30). see Johoaikin (Matt. 1:12).

1. A spiritual kingdom (John 18:36).

2. A specific time given (Mark 9:1; Acts 1:6-8; 1 Cor. 15:24-26).

3. Exists now! (Col. 1:112-13; Rev. 5:9-10).

III. WHY IS HE COMING AGAIN?

A. TO RAISE THE DEAD (John 5:28-29).

B. TO GATHER THE SAINTS (1 Thess. 4:13-18).

C. TO JUDGE ALL MEN (Matt. 25:31-33; Acts 17:30-31; John 12:48).

D. TO RENDER TO EACH HIS REWARD.

1. 2 Cor. 5:10. What we do.

2. 2 Thess. 1:7-9. Justice.

3. Phil. 3:20-21. Take us home!

E. HIS COMING IS CERTAIN (Heb. 9:27-28).

CONCLUSION:

A. THAT DAY MEANS THE DESTRUCTION OF THE COSMOS (2 Pet. 3:10).

B. WE DESIRE THAT DAY TO COME (2 Pet. 3:11-12).

C. A GOOD DAY FOR YOU?
